How do you know if a short hair cut/style will fit your face?

I had short hair from age probably 6-12 and i looked like a little boy. i was a big tom boy so i also wore boys clothes. but besides that, now i'm older, 16 and i have long hair. sometimes i think that getting a short cut would drastically change my appearance which is something i kind of want. i have a cowlick in the front of my hair so it kind of gets in the way so i can't do side bangs or even bangs for that matter, but used to spike my hair and do that little spike/wave in the front when i was young. i'm worried if i get a short hair cut again, i'll look like a boy and i definitely don't want that.

Go to Barnes and Nobles in the magazine section and check out the European hair magazines. They are much better than our hair mags! Cut out a few you like, no matter if you think it'll fit you or not. It's sometimes hard to find pictures on the internet of cute cuts, usually people bring in celebrity styles. Look around and see what you like.Take these pictures into your hairdresser and she will suggest the best look for you!
